Les Canavan, Candidate for First Vice President

I am at present serving as the 1st V.P. and am running for re-election as I feel that there is much to be done to get this club back on an even keel. There have been many contentious problems that should have been dealt with in a calmer manner by all involved. Fortunately some of these situations are coming to completion and that should clear the atmosphere somewhat. I feel that I can bring experience, a cooperative attitude, and a desire to put the betterment of the Collie and all pure bred dogs and their breeders on the front burner.

We need to present a better face to the public and regain the position that the Collie commanded in the past, this requires publicity. The world is changing, and so must we.

Let's get in the front row to fight restrictive dog laws and those threatening the very existence of the Collie and Collie breeder. We must all get together to put on a 125th Anniversary Show that will be a celebration of the Collie for all to join!

I have been a Collie breeder for 50+ years, have bred 35+ Champions, and am currently breeding and showing. I was a PHA Handler for 20 years and since leaving the handler ranks have been a AKC judge since 86, and have judged the National twice. I have been involved with Collie Club of Long Island since it's inception having served in all offices. I have served in the past as 1st VP and DD of the CCA and at present am Chairman of the Breeder Education Committee and 1st VP of the Quarter Century Club. I have served all of the above clubs on numerous committees over the years.

The Collie presents an impressive, proud picture of true balance, each part being in harmonious proportion to every other part and to the whole.
