Remembering Carol Karalis, Castle Hill Collies
Carol Karalis of Castle Hill Collies died early Friday morning after fighting a brave battle against liver cancer over the last two months. She died in the company of her family and her dear friend (and partner in Collies and Shelties), Elvys Maldonado. Carol was a true friend to all in every sense of the word—good spirited, kind, thoughtful and helpful. She loved life, her friends, and her dogs. Carol will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Remembering Bernie Howard, Stargazer Collies
The collie world mourns the passing today of Bernie Howard. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, with whom he established Stargazer Collies in 1972 in Michigan. Bernie was known as "The Voice of the CCA" for his many years of service as the announcer at the Collie Club of America National Specialty. Known for his love of the breed, a quick wit and friendly demeanor, Bernie was named the American Kennel Club's Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winner for 2009. He will be missed by all who knew him.

As part of a celebration of life, the Northern Arizona Collie Fanciers dedicated its June10th specialty shows to Mary B. Kittredge (Kittredge Collies) and John Kavanagh (Kingsmark Collies). Featured in the NACF catalog is a beautiful tribute article about Mary and John of such historical value it is worth sharing on a national level. Memorial Service for Kathleen Parker
An informal memorial service, open to those who wish to attend, will be held for longtime Collie Club of America member, Kathleen Parker, Sunday, June 19th between 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at The Cliff House, 591 Shore Road, Cape Neddick, Maine 03902. Kathy Weare is in charge of the service (phone number: 207-361-1000). Kathleen Parker started in Collies in the early 70s with a Shoreham collie. In the early years she was mentored by Al and Helene Forthal, who became her close friends for the next thirty years. She owned numerous collie champions including a Best in Show winner, CH Shoreham With Gusto. Kathy was a hard working member of CCA's Quarter Century Group and a true friend of the Collie. She is sorely missed by those who knew and loved her.

Show closings
There are six shows closing Wednesday, March 2. Heart of America Kennel Club will host the Kansas City Collie Club Saturday, March 19 at the American Royal Complex in Kansas City, Missouri with judge Dorothy Collier (Breed).

Three shows will take place at American K9 Country in Amherst, New Hampshire on Saturday and Sunday, March 19 and 20 (view ad). On Saturday, Collie Club of New Hampshire hosts two shows. The A.M. judge is Bob Kelly (Breed) and the P.M. judge is Butch Schulman (Breed). Collie Club of New England plays host on Sunday with judges Lesllie Canavan (Breed) and Carole Miller (Sweeps).

There are two shows taking place March 19 and 20 at the Show Barn Cloverdale Fairgrounds in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. On Saturday, the Collie Club of Canada National Specialty takes place with judge Mary Wells (Breed). On Sunday, the Collie Club of British Columbia Specialty will be center stage with judge Mike Van Tassell (Breed).

Results: Collie Club of Connecticut
The Collie Club of Connecticut held its specialty show on Saturday, February 12th. Judge Shelley Roos awarded the rough dog, CH Marnus Lucky Strike Best in Specialty. This was the third of four specialties held over the weekend in Bristol. The Collie Club of Connecticut dedicated its show in memory of Herb Searle.

Special note: The Collie Club of Connecticut and Hartford Springfield Collie club sponsored a donation drive for Collie rescue at their shows this past weekend. The donation drive was spearheaded by Elvys Maldonado and Jackie Caruso with help from Darci Brown. The spectators at the show were very generous with their monetary donations and donations of food, treats and toys for the rescue group. Darci sold merchandise which had been donated and was a very successful part of the drive. In addition to the food and toys and treats, a donation of $500 was given to the Collie Rescue League of New England.
