The National Education for Assistance Dog Services (NEADS), a non-profit organization that trains dogs to help people who are deaf or physically disabled is looking for Smooth Collies. Although the organization predominantly uses labs and goldens for Service Dog work, they like to use the Smooth Collie for Walker Dog work. Walker Dogs are partnered with people who are still ambulatory but need assistance with balance. The dogs also pick up dropped items and often help their partners (who cannot bend over) take off the socks, etc. They have had several Smooth Collies that have excelled in Hearing Dog work. These dogs respond to sounds in their environment and let their deaf partners know what has occurred.

For more information on how you can help contact; Sheila O'Brien, Executive Director of NEADS. Sheila can be reached by email at sobrien@neads.org or by phone at 978-422-9064 ext. 11
