On December 3, fire destroyed the Moorpark, California home of Collie fancier, Dorann Laperch. It is a catastrophic loss for Dorann, who did not have replacement insurance on her home, located about an hour northwest of Los Angeles. The fire was fueled by 60 mph Santa Ana winds coupled with low humidity and temperatures in the 70s. In all the fire burned at least 9,700 acres, or 15 square miles. So far this year, a record 9.4 million acres have burned across the country — and all signs suggest the trend will continue, as fire season stretches into the winter months. Dorann was not harmed in the fire and there are no reports of injuries to her animals. If anyone would like to send a donation, they can be sent to Dorann's address:

Three judges have been approved on a provisional basis by the American Kennel Club. Debbie Ferguson of Wilmington, Illinois, Amber Shields-Turner of Meadow Vista, California and Bernadette Biasi of Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania are all available for assignments. Daniel Wheatcroft of Acton, Calif., has completed his provisional assignments and is approved for the breed.

A breed-specific registered name prefix has been granted to Laura LaCongo (La-De-Da).

Beginning in 2007, the AKC Awards Book will be distributed as a PDF on CD-ROM, readable by both MACs and PCs. The subscription fee will be $65 and will contain the same information as the current printed version.

At the August Board of Directors meeting, AKC staffers, tasked to analyze participation in conformation events, reported that the number of (distinct/unique) dogs is dropping at a rate of about 750 per year. The staff concluded that the drop is tied to the decrease in the number of dog registrations over the last six years. Despite the fall off, the AKC recorded an increase in the number of (distinct/unique) dogs participating in more than six shows per year.

ADVERTISE ON COL

Breeders Directory Listing
There are two ways to advertise on Collies Online. Breeders can advertise their kennel by purchasing a Breeders Directory Listing for $75 and updating their litter news throughout the year. The listings are organized by state and have proven very affective for breeders all over the country.

Display Advertising including preferred position
The second way to advertise is by purchasing display ad space in our advertising tunnel. The lead ad in the tunnel is by reservation only and costs $100. The second, third and fourth position are also preferred positions and cost $75. Ads in the fifth position and beyond cost $50.

Pay with PayPal, check or credit card
We accept payments by check, payable to "Collies Online" or online through PayPal. If you want to pay with your credit card you don't need a PayPal account but you can still use the PayPal application.

Publishing schedule and advertising copy
Display ads are published on Saturday and appear in the ad tunnel for a week, on the contents page for a month and then in the ad archive for a year.

By sending us a photo and ad copy either via e-mail or snail mail, we can design an attractive ad for you or you can submit your ad finished.

Contact us by e-mail at ColliesOnline@fastmail.us for lead-page availability or specs if you are designing your own ad.

Each extra photo is $10 and you can enhance your ad with a pedigree for an additional $10.
