Kudos to the Hartford-Springfield Collie Club, one of the clubs in the Collie Club of America Connecticut District, and Mary Lange for taking the initiative to hold a seminar for their club members utilizing "Celebrating the Collie Standard."
It was a wonderful day, graciously hosted at the beautiful home of club member Jackie DeCinqe. The setting was beautiful, the food was delicious and the members were eager to learn. Now, more than ever, I believe it is important that members, breeders and exhibitors, study the standard. This club provided their members that opportunity.
There was a dog there for attendees to put their hands on as I read and explained each part of the standard. There is no substitute for actually touching the head of a collie, learning how to feel it and have what you are feeling, explained. I could see how some of the older and newer members had the "aha" moments where they understood what our standard says.
The presentation book "Celebrating the Collie Standard" produced by the Collie Club of America Judges Education Committee, with its pictures and diagram overlays, really makes our standard easy to understand. Thank you again to HSCC for holding this event and providing a great educational opportunity to their members.
