Greater Brighton Collie Club in Michigan hosted a two day “Quest for Quality” seminar, moderated by Tom Coen, on June 30th.
Moderator Tom Coen and panelist Jackie Caruso
This seminar presented the participants with a rare opportunity of hearing Joyce Houser of Twin Creeks collies speak on her line of dogs, how she created it, her selection process, breeding theories, and many other topics.
Panel discussions with a number of breeders who created families of dogs that started with Twin Creeks and evolved into their own unique families through their process of selection were part of the seminar, as well as discussion with breeder mentors on the different families of dogs they have worked with.
Films were shown of dogs and the breeding theories of past master breeders such as Trudy Mangels and Elizabeth Browning and Ed Pickhardt.
Panelists included Joyce Houser, Sue Fabeck, Carol Fabeck, Bertha Garrison, Carol Stanley, Marcy Fine, Caroline “Cookie” Jones and Jackie Caruso.
The second day included a virtues match moderated by Tom Coen and judged by Carol Stanley, Sue Fabeck and Cookie Jones and a sanctioned “B” match judged by Jackie Caruso, Devinwood Collies.
We owe a debt of gratitude to Lee Patton, Cathy Gentz , Christie Murphy and the members of the Greater Brighton Collie Club for their commitment to making this seminar possible, to Lee and Mike Patton for hosting the after seminar barbeque, to Wayne Murphy for filming the event and Mike Fine for taking photos of the event.
