Pacific Northwest Collie Club leads the way in November

There were 12 specialty shows held in 4 states during November: Alabama, California, Oregon and Tennessee. Linda Hash Davis judged the largest entry, surveying 57 collies -- 34 roughs and 23 smooths, at the Pacific Northwest Collie Club Sunday specialty show in Rickreall, Oregon on November 13, 2016. Judge Davis was approved for the breed in October of 2007.

California specialty pulls highest entry and third best attendance
Judge Barbara Linder's total entry of 61 was the largest entry for the month. She has been an AKC Collie judge since November 1999.

Both Varieties hold their own in the Herding Group
This month recorded 1 Best in Show (judge Inge Semenschin), 1 Reserve Best in Show award (judge: Gareth Morgan-Jones) 27 Herding Group placements, including 8 Group 1 awards, 5 Group 2 awards, 10 Group 3 awards and 4 Group 4 awards -- 18 for the roughs and 9 for the smooths. Tom Coen was the only judge to place both varieties in the same Group. That show was at Chenango Valley Kennel Club in Syracuse, New York and it included 108 herding dogs shown that day.

The largest number of herding dogs shown at a show in which a collie took a group placement was 186 on November 5. It was a Group 2 under judge Harry (Butch) Schulman at Marion Kennel Club in Fort Wayne, Indiana. On that day, the honor went to the Rough variety.

Owner handlers continue to keep up the pace
Herding Group judges placed collies 22 times in the AKC National Owner-Handled Series, including 5 Group 1 awards (3 for the smooths, 2 for the roughs) and also a Reserve Best In Show (Smooth) by Joan Eversole at Springfield Kennel Club in Massachusetts on November 27.
