Rough Collie Reserve Best in Show at Moore County Kennel Club
September brought 35 Herding Group placements to our Collies. Only the month of May accounted for more placements with 40.
Overall, the Roughs came away with placements 20 times compared to 15 for the Smooths. Three judges honored the breed with Group 1 awards: Joseph Gregory (Boxers). Barbara Pessina (Pulik) and Charles Trotter (German Shepherds) and a Reserve Best in Show was awarded by Patricia Trotter (Norwegian Elkhounds) at Moore County Kennel Club in North Carolina. Judge Trotter has been judging Collies at all-breed shows since July 2002.
The largest Herding Group, in which a collie placed, had a total entry of 192 for Judge Beverly Capstick (Doberman Pinschers), for whom a smooth collie was awarded a Group 3. This show was held at Somerset Hills Kennel Club in New Jersey.

Owner-handlers and their collies posted highs for the year as the judges placed them 35 times in the National Owner-Hander Series. There were 5 groups 1s awarded, 2 for the Roughs and 3 for the Smooths, by judges Barbara Pessina (Pulik), Joseph Gregory (Boxers), Kimberly Meredith-Cavanna (Alaska Malamutes), Deborah Anthony (Cardigan Welsh Corgis) and Alan Ewels from Canada.
Smooths placed 24 times compared to the Roughs, which had 11 placements.
